Set up the integration
Install Node.js and npm first, then run setup for the Claude Code client. This selects one integration instead of every agent detected on your machine.
npx rea-agents@latest setup --client claude_codeReview the plan before approving it. The standard setup writes a user-level REA entry and matching skill, so the integration is available across Claude Code projects. If you need a separate profile or project scope, use the official configuration guide rather than moving configuration files by guesswork.
Restart and check both sides
Restart Claude Code after setup. Use its MCP listing to check discovery, and REA’s doctor to check local registration. These checks answer different questions.
claude mcp list
npx rea-agents@latest doctor --client claude_code --jsonIf you use a custom CLAUDE_CONFIG_DIR, run setup, doctor, and Claude under that same profile. Otherwise you can repair a configuration the active session never reads.
Give Claude a useful investigation brief
Supply the local target, one behavior, and the evidence you expect. For example:
Use REA to inspect my local Electron app at /path/to/app.
Trace how its CSV export is assembled.
Show the entry point, data transformation, and output writer.
Cite source locations for each step and list unresolved links.
Do not run the target application. This is a suggested prompt, not a recorded result. Replace the target and question. Ask the agent to distinguish a static code path from behavior it has actually observed.
Move from findings to implementation
Request a short behavior specification before new code: inputs, outputs, transformations, and edge cases. Then implement the behavior in your own project and test representative examples. This keeps an uncertain decompiler inference from silently becoming a product requirement.
If a tool is missing, repair the selected integration with a dry-run plan first. Installing a standalone skill supplies instructions but does not by itself register the MCP server.
Check the source
REA evolves quickly. Verify exact flags and platform support against the official documentation for the release you install.
